A Change of Character is the first warning sign that a trend might be turning. It fires when price breaks a swing point against the current trend: taking out the last higher-low in an uptrend, or the last lower-high in a downtrend. It does not confirm a reversal, but it is often the earliest structural clue that one is starting.

In plain terms

The trend just did something it "should not" do if it were healthy. That break of character is why it is worth a closer look.

Why it matters

CHoCH is the mirror image of a Break of Structure. A BOS says "the trend continues"; a CHoCH says "the trend is being challenged". Traders treat a CHoCH as the first technical trigger to start watching for a possible reversal setup, rather than as a reversal in itself.

How Signalix scores strength

The base score is 4 out of 5, because reversal-type signals carry more weight than plain continuations. We add a point when the candle that breaks the level does so on strong volume (more than 1.5x the 20-bar average), which suggests a genuine shift rather than a thin, low-volume wick.

How to read the chart

The dashed line marks the swing level that was broken. The highlighted trigger candle is the bar whose close pierced that level against the prevailing trend.
